When a couple decides to separate, they have various options on how to proceed. People often choose mediation because it is faster, less expensive, and less adversarial than a litigated divorce. Mediation is also beneficial for the children of divorce. It allows separating families to make decisions based on their particular needs and circumstances, rather than having a judge who knows very little about each family, make decisions about what a settlement will look like.
Mediation looks at two or three basic issues: support, division of assets, and parenting (if you have children). Our mediators are also lawyers, so we can also draft the settlement agreement and file them with the New York State Courts if you so desire.
